Catholic Deadly Seven Sin
How Not to Share Your Faith: The Seven Deadly Sins of Apologetics Not long after converting to the Catholic faith, noted author and apologist Mark Brumley found himself in a discussion with a Protestant friend. Secure in his newfound faith - and feeling somewhat superior to his "less-enlightened" friend - Brumley smugly said, "Yes, I, too, used to think as you do." It was an outburst of pride that undermined Brumley's arguments for the faith and likely drove his friend further away from the truth. Brumley had just committed one of the seven "sins" he describes in his remarkable book, How Not to Share Your Faith: The Seven Deadly Sins of Catholic Apologetics and Evangelization. In this book, Brumley describes seven of the most common and tragic mistakes he and other apologists have made over the years in their attempts to defend and explain the Catholic faith. More importantly, he reveals how you can avoid these mistakes and become far more effective at sharing your faith in a charitable way - even if that means losing an argument from time to time.
Virtues and Vices: Stories of Moral Life by Andrew M. Greeley, Two consummate storytellers -- one a liberal Catholic priest, the other a conservative Jewish rabbi -- draw on their religious heritages to reveal fresh ways of understanding good and evil behavior. Inspired by scripture and oral tradition, each author presents a story on each of the seven deadly sins, and then offers a story on one of the seven primary virtues. Each vivid story offers profound insight into the ongoing battle of good and evil. Theologian Mary Greeley Durkin has written the compelling introduction and conclusion.
Philosophical sin - The existence of philosphical sin was a debate waged in the Roman Catholic Church in the late seventeenth century. The idea of a "philosophic sin," as opposed to "theological sin" was advocated by those who would construct a moral system independent of God. Jaime Cardinal Sin - Jaime Cardinal Sin, also Jaime Lachica Sin (August 31, 1928–June 21, 2005) (Chinese name: 辛海梅; 辛海棉), was an archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church in the Philippines. He led the Archdiocese of Manila as its archbishop and was later elevated to the rank of cardinal by Pope Paul VI. Historicism (Christian eschatology) - Historicism in Christian eschatology is an interpretation of the Book of Revelation that sees the book's prophecies finding literal earthly fulfillment through the history of the church age and especially in relation to the Protestant- Catholic conflicts of the Reformation. A distinct feature of Historicism which makes it very controversial is the identification of the Antichrist (1 and 2 John), the Beast (Revelation 13), the Man of sin or Man of Lawlessness (2 Thessalonians 2) and the Whore of Babylon (Revelation chapter 17) with the Roman Catholic Church, the Papal system and each successive Pope himself (a common position held by protestants in the reformation, which is ... Imperfect contrition - Imperfect contrition (also known as attrition) in catholic theology is a desire not to sin for a reason other than love of God. Imperfect contrition is contrasted with perfect contrition, as practiced in the Catholic sacrement of Reconciliation.
